The Haight Solid State grow lights use the latest LED technology to deliver outstanding growth performance. Plants use only a small portion of light from the sun. The measure of the light levels of the useful part of the spectrum for plants is called the "Photosynthetic Photon Flux" or PPF. Our PPF grow lights are thin, lightweight and have no fans.
The LEDs are 6W each – more than 4 times brighter than the Cree XB. The LEDs are automotive rated – the toughest rating for semiconductors. These are the only grow lights currently using this new generation of LEDs – they produce more light, penetrate deeper, and cost less. But more importantly, our comparison to HPS is based on expected yield, cycle time, and quality that these lights deliver.
LED lighting is still a little more expensive than HPS lighting initially. However, you should consider the cost of replacement bulbs (our LEDs will last much longer – over 5 years) and the power savings. PG&E rates max out at 44 cents per KWH for over baseline residential usage. At that rate a 600W HPS operating 18 hours per day would cost about $140 per month verses only $40 for the PPF-800.
The PPF-800 should be positioned 12-18 inches above the canopy. Closer than 6 inches can result in stunted growth during the vegetative stage but it is a good idea to move the lights closer during the second half of flowering.
*Tip – Always tie a drip loop in the cord so that water can not run down the cord and into the fixture
