Southwest Windpower Whisper 500, 24v Wind Turbine w/ Charge Controller

The Whisper 500, 24 volt wind turbine by Southwest Windpower is a 3000-watt rated turbine that will deliver in excess of 500 kWh per month in a 12 mph wind. This machine has a 14-foot, 2 blade rotor providing 500 sq. ft. of swept area. It features a handmade fiberglass and foam core blade for smooth, high efficiency operation and low wind start-up. It also incorporates the patented "angle governor" design for quiet operation in high winds. The 500 is an excellent machine for village power projects, farms, ranches, backup power and remote homes with large energy demands. The Whisper 500 comes in two boxes and is shipped truck freight.

The side-furling Angle-Governor protects the turbine in high winds by turning the alternator and blades out of the wind, reducing turbine exposure. Unlike other wind turbines that lose as much as 80% of their output when furled, the Angle-Governor allows the Whisper to achieve maximum output in any wind.

In addition to its patented smooth acting side furling design, the Whisper 200 has a number of new features that make it ideal for any new or existing photovoltaic system:

Whisper Controller

Unlike many other small wind systems, the Whisper 500 can be shipped with a controller that includes a diversion load to ensure quiet safe operation of your wind turbine when the batteries are charged.

It installs in minutes and it protects both your wind turbine and battery. The Whisper Controller fits easily inside your battery room. Add the optional LCD display and you will instantly receive real time data on the performance of your Whisper 500.

The display can be mounted on the controller or up to 1000 feet (300 meters) away letting you know what is happening. You can even add an anemometer to your controller and now you can measure wind speed and compare it to the output to make sure you are getting the most from your Whisper 500.

The control can be set to stop the blade from spinning when the battery is fully charged, avoiding wear when power is not needed. The control has a "selectable silent mode" setting that allows the user to select any specific period to automatically turn the wind turbine on or off.

Installation

Go Green Solar offers tower kits that include all the cables and fasteners you will need. No welding or machining is required – you just need to obtain pipe material and power wires.

The Whisper 500 is NOT for the novice. Installation of the towers requires concrete foundations and at times a crane to lift the wind turbine into place.

Solar and wind work together
